Re: Temporary Reduction in Leadership + Unit Upgrade = Crash

I did a search and didn't find this bug reported, so here goes:

I levelled and spent my point on Charisma, raising it from 11 to 12.  I wanted to take my unmodified leadership to 4, so I de-equipped Beregord's Horn, dropping my Leadership from 5 to 3, then made the mistake of noticing some of my troops were ready to upgrade.

When I tried to upgrade an elite lancer to a brego guard the system crashed.
When I restarted I de-equipped, raised the skill point, and re-equipped without doing anything else, and nothing crashed, so it did work out in the end.

So here's the deal: if you have to temporarily lower a modified skill to raise your base skill, don't do anything else, particularly if you're de-equipping a leadership item in order to add a base skill point to leadership.  De-equip, wait for the skill to drop, add your skill point, then re-equip, and don't mess with anything else until the job's done.

It would be better if you could raise a base skill without having to de-equip skill-enhancing items, like if the skill point ceiling algorithm was smart enough to see that although your modded skill is over your ability score cap your unmodded skill is still eligible for improving, but that's probably way too hard to code.

It would be better if the items added a fixed bonus - say x to your max party size - rather than an actual skill increase.  That would also avoid bugs if the value goes over 10.

Unfortunately, party size is controlled by Charisma and Leadership. There is no way to directly increase the party size without adjusting one of those parameters. I've been fighting this with ONR also.

The horses tend to get their legs caught in the catapult rather than being properly launched.

It is possible to change the amount given per each point of leadership in the module file. No idea if this is adjustable in-game.

minor bug:
dunno when this started, but last time I checked trees icons on the map had ceased casting any shadow.
They did cast a very rough one at some point in the past.

Ignore this. It is just my stupid laptop card. mtarini

Yesterday I saw that a fighting uruk hai warrior had stolen my horse. I got of it at the start and at some point he got on it and started fighting as cavalry! At the end there he was, proudly waving his spear in the air from atop my horse! An infantryman taking a horse? Do uruk hai even have riding skills? I've never seen this before.

You must've pressed the Mount Horses order by accident.  I've seen it happen, too.  Although it can be a delightful surprise when they end up taking down an enemy cavalry man and stealing his horse.

I guess I must have done. Doesn't explain why a fighting uruk hai warrior has a riding score sufficient to ride a desert mare though.

A fighting Uruk-hai would be a level 25 character.  In the module system a troop can be given specific stats that will be reflected in the game, but all the stats not directly specified are filled randomly based on how high their level is.  Meaning that the game probably randomly assigned a high level of riding skill to the Fighting Uruk-hai troops.

That's the easiest thing in the world to do.  In the module.ini file, you will find a section about ten lines down from the top that looks like:

skill_prisoner_management_bonus = 5
skill_leadership_bonus = 5
base_companion_limit = 5

Change them to whatever you want.

For some reason after every battle I fight I get the message that Orophin was slain in battle and a mound is raised, even though he is not even in my party.

another text problem and/or bug:
Denethor of Minas Tirith gives me a whole paragraph about sending me to rescue Orthalion of Gondor, but in the end, he says that if I succeed, I would earn the friendship of the 'elves'.
What does the old man have to do with elves? 0.o
