Companion Locations
« on: May 13, 2011, 06:16:19 AM »
I'm a bit confused as to how to get NPCs for the evil side. Didn't notice any help threads of this kind, so I figured I post one. Could you please tell me which companions are available to the evil side, and how?

other than what you wrote in http://mbx.streetofeyes.com/index.php/topic,108.270.html

influence is your friend.
build it up and you can recruit lords to your party. tis pretty cool but they cost a lot, esp the likes of Glorfindel

There are Julute at the bandit camp for 6000.

Obviously you are playing either for the Eye or for the White Hand. Both at Black Gate of Morannon and at Isengard there are 1 companion and 1 lieutenant/captain. So the basic is Julute(6000gold), 2companions(0+10XP) and a lieutenant(quest reward) and add those the leaders that you recruit from each camp/city for 150-250XP, there are around 10 of them. I think you can recruit the northen heroes f.e. Bolg The Lesser of Moria as both Isengard and as Mordor. No such thing as Glorfindel for the Evil side. As Good you can recruit Elves as well when you complete the Elf Friend Trait that you get from Galadriel's Slay the Sorcerer Quest. They cost 150-250XP.

Easy way to get all heroes right at the start is to edit the conversations.txt file and put some troop recruit cost into negative, f.e. from 10 to -90, then recruit a bunch of them and gain a lot of influence with what you can immediately recruit all the heroes..

One of the heroes I wanted to recruit has taken to the field... anyway to recruit them now?

Sadly, I can't order them to go back home (to Moria) because that's not on the, "Go to" list. I'm thinking one of the only other ways is to somehow get them captured by the enemy, then rescue them.

that's true, only through rescue.. or recruit early enough so that he won't get to lead an army

Gah, rescued him... but he ends up as a high-level soldier instead of a companion x.x".... This is irritating.

Is it impossible to rescue companions from the elves? Bolg the Lesser got captured by the elves, with the message, "He is unlikey to ever return..."

I went and checked all the elven cities I could see, and all of them had only the "Leave" option. Tried going back to Moria, no option for taking a rescue mission. MY commanders in ISengard couldn't care less either.

Was I meant to wait some time, or do something else before I make a rescue attempt? Or is it impossible with elves?

Could you please be more specific on how to edit the TXT so you gain influence instead of losing it when you recruit troops...?

There's a crazy amount of jumbled-looking text in the conversations TXT... I managed to get it so that it said, "-100 Influence Cost" but it didn't work that way...

Modules - TLD - conversation.txt

find lines similar to

dlga_give_me_a_large_uruk_w 69631 710  0 Give_me_a_large_uruk_warrior._(cost:_15/{reg1})  711  3 20033 33555226 83886310 0 20033 33555236 15 0 20033 33555237 50 0
dlga_give_me_an_olog_hai. 69631 710  0 Give_me_an_olog-hai._(cost:_80/{reg1})  711  3 20033 33555226 83886333 0 20033 33555236 80 0 20033 33555237 500 0
dlga_give_me_a_black_nume 69631 710  0 Give_me_a_black_numenorian_warrior._(cost:_40/{reg1})  711  3 20033 33555226 83886326 0 20033 33555236 40 0 20033 33555237 200 0

And edit the number that equals the "cost:_XX" and put it into a negative similar to this:

dlga_give_me_a_large_uruk_w 69631 710  0 Give_me_a_large_uruk_warrior._(cost:_15/{reg1})  711  3 20033 33555226 83886310 0 20033 33555236 -90 0 20033 33555237 50 0
dlga_give_me_an_olog_hai. 69631 710  0 Give_me_an_olog-hai._(cost:_80/{reg1})  711  3 20033 33555226 83886333 0 20033 33555236 -90 0 20033 33555237 500 0
dlga_give_me_a_black_nume 69631 710  0 Give_me_a_black_numenorian_warrior._(cost:_40/{reg1})  711  3 20033 33555226 83886326 0 20033 33555236 -90 0 20033 33555237 200 0

Have fun..
