Plate armor debates? Hmph! To the dark side that way leads.  /yoda

EDIT: I removed most of the recent trouble in case anyone wonders where the posts went.

Well, they did learn crafting from supernatural beings and in some cases from sauron himself.  And they did have "steel longbows".   Which of course famously turned the battle of Agincourt. Er..

Yeah, rigging tricks might make something possible for dwarves.  You might even be able to jury rig  an oliphaunt hitbox as mentioned above.  Better if there is more support and I have enough to do atm without trying to build around the unknown. If we can cleanly use other skeletons, without using scaling at all, I'll be happy. As will many modders.

Defection missions are a good idea in some universes but not sure about lotr, maybe for a select few individuals. But my primary focus on a new version will be the meta-stuff.  I cant answer many questions. Either I dont know (likely) or I know and wont discuss it till its done.

As for plate, they didnt need it.  In a universe where craftsmanship borders on the magical and there are fantasy metals, who needs classic arms development?  THey can make ropes that can untie themselves ffs.   You no more get a realistic depiction of arms development in tolkien than you get a realistic depiction of biological evolution.

If plate armor was common why doesnt anyone in the lord of the ring trilogy use it?  If there was a Lost Tales reference to some kind of full plate armor, or even steel breastplates for some reason the use of it wasnt continued in the time period of lotr.  It's mail all the way down with a single possible reference to a steel vambrace, which we use anyway.

Of course, I don't always follow the book and change whatever I like in the mod but this is an area I'm not changing. Ive received some really deranged email over this issue through the years which Ill never understand and I wont spend any time worrying about.

And its easy enough to swap a mesh if it bothers you.  Hopefully the movie mod version gets done once the next version is out.

Well, things will be very different. I cant say exactly how yet but different.

In Michael Moorcock's Corum stories the dwarf Goffanon (?) was 8 feet tall.  He was a dwarf in that he was shorter than the much taller elves (20-50 feet tall or something).  Doesnt really work for tolkien but its funny.

Thats a good idea.

There is nothing magical about it.  Looks like an nvisible rider with a dummy rider mesh, etc.   I could probably rig our oliphaunt in an hour.

But oliphaunts arent asian elephant sized as far as I'm concerned.  You could rig a big one, like our prop, but the hitbox is still going to be a little horse sized invisible box under the thing. heh.  It's not something I would spend any time on until we know what the final limits of the engine might be.  Once that is written in stone, and once thorgrim has the final say on any possible loopholes, then we'll know whats what.

As for dwarves, it's the same formula.  Armagan hopefully works something out, if not it's up to thorgrim.  If neither can manage it then dwarves will die the death.

As a matter of fact I wanted to get those elven pc command orders put into a female voice for any female elvish pcs but I'm not sure how that will be changing once I look at that area for the port.  At the moment the male elven pc has orders but the females are silent.

Thanks for the offer though. I'll check back with you once that gets figured out.

I think one of the gondorian voice contributors was british. He might be thinking of that.

Cool. Well, I think we are full up on dunlending voices but if you want to try one of the others, feel free.  The elves already say Elbereth Gilthoniel iirc, at least in my version. Check the first post for phrase ideas. We could mostly use:

Possibly more gondorian
Some elven variants if you feel like it.
Easterling babble/some made up stuff.

Send them to Dablade for cleanup when you have some finished.

If you want to take a look at the background meshes in the latest version you might think about doing a background mesh that will fit next to the extisting MT outer wall to give a seamless, curve to the horizon look.

Just an idea.

If you want to texture the orc helmets put them on the tld orc sheet that the movie-ish helms use. Its a solid sheet of dark bronze in the files.  Don't texture the first one of the last set as I think its too futuristic.

Don't do baby ents, we won't be going there. heh. Dwarf helmets we already have done, so skip those.

I'll try to think of something...

Nice stuff, I'd say some is a little hi-tech looking rather than crudely smithed.  Needs smoothing as well but that's easy enough.  If you make any other variants just keep an eye toward the stuff being hammered out or molded rather than machined.

Likely before. It really could go out any time but I need to do some really boring clean up with it.
