TLD.808 / Re: TLD mentioned in PC Gamer!

That's funny.

I just found out that Computer Gaming World/GFW died last spring.  I wondered why they stopped sending reup slips.   Pc Gamer is one of the few left and Ill have to grab a copy of that.

Oh yeah, I asked him to post here to get some ideas for any weapons we might need.  Feel free to suggest anything to him and we'll see what comes up.

I havent looked at those stats in awhile but thought it was funny how many hits the .808 version has.  I'd say about 80% of those d/ls are .808.     Some of the older mods, from .751 and before have dropped a lot in the top 10 because the larger m&b audience now can generate large numbers of d/ls quickly for newer mods.     The m&b audience really took off with .808 imo.

That's even taking into consideration that the tld .808 version has been out for a year.  I wonder if Armagan's sales really spiked around .808?

Anyway.

@ FS,

there is no tld .960.  There hasnt been a tld since .808, even in the dev area.  We just kick around graphics ideas there and critique stuff.

EDIT:

Hurons could be interesting.

@Ron,

I forget you learned graphics stuff.  If you want to help I'll think of a project for you.

What is this discussion?  Make nice with Brutus, he makes a lot of good shit.

We could do any number of interesting things with the idea if we went with it.  It wouldnt need to feature in the war itself at all.

I think my only concern would be the skeleton situation. I'd like to see what's what with the mod tools to know what kind of model would be needed and what constraints would apply.  I don't remember much about the subject from my mod research time but I vaguely remember second hand references to wolf-like werewolves.   But I never saw any primary text with actual information.  I'll need to look into it.

Send me a list if you care to write them out.

Also, that other thing. No rush but I could probably use it in the next month or so if you are still up for it.

I dont have the pm in my inbox so I must not have saved it.  IIRC form the line is "Tangado Haid" or something. The others are all from an elvish syntax site but I really dont remember what they are saying.

I like the idea of muskets for the orcs.

The material is used so often in mods and such it's almost like redoing shakespeare over and over.  In some cases they do modern productions where they alter the setting to other periods like the 19th century or the 40s.    Of course, I dont have any time to do it but its an interesting idea.   Not that the original poster has any idea where he is.

Good to have you back.  Looks neat.

I always wanted to get to Ireland but havent done it.  Had an Irish girlfriend way back when.  Drank like I don't know what.  You'd best get used to that.

TLD.808 / Re: About formations..
« on: July 23, 2008, 02:05:34 pm »
I think he means the .808 formations in tld...?    Some troops are rated to use formations, that's all.  It just allows them to do it.

A box formation with troops with spears tends to be pretty devastating in .808 seeing as the enemy doesnt have formations of its own.

I was pretty impressed with the native formations when I tried it a few weeks ago.  I havent played m&b post-808 for more than 10 minutes so the changes were interesting.   I'm sure there will be plenty of ways to tweak combat behavior once I start scripting again but then I'll have to abandon graphics work.  Can't do both.

That sounds feasable.  It might also be possible to just kill them and deal with the consequences later.   There is usually a way to do something, its just a matter of how much time you want to spend on it and how willing you are to put up with a few loose ends.

In .808 the only thing that could be done was to scatter them.  If you send them to one edge of the map youve just made a semi-helpful formation on the map edge.

We already have the nazgul fear/morale script.  It wouldnt be hard to modify it to include different conditions.   We might use Chel's though depending on how much scripting time is available.
