If I recall correctly, those are in the game,but not in troop trees. They are usually the captain/general leading the other in-game armies.

Just a quick question, how come some troops carry duplicate stuff and/or 2 types of armor?
There are different 'models' of the same item. For example, there are three diferent Rohan shields, each depicting a diferent image/being of a different color (say, Yellow + Horse; Red + Helmet; Green + Sword).
Now, a troop listed with these three items of a kind would not spawn on the battlefield with three shields, but rather only one - which could be any of them. That's why you see Rohirrim troops carrying different shields, which give a nice aesthetic touch to the game (nobody wants to see their troops as clones, unless you're playing Star Wars: Conquest)

Exactly. While some troops, especially higher tier troops were made armors specifically for that troop, some factions would have more random sets of armor and weaponry. Dunland, for example, I think we designed them to have, for almost every tier, all the armors, randomly picked. I think chieftan is the only tier that doesn't. Gundabad, as well as most orcs overall, are the same. Mostly random armor and weaponry.

You won't, however, find and Knights of the Citadel roaming around in Gondor ranger armor.

yes, the main difference between our designs and the books is the Gondorian armors. the main deletion is breastplates. pauldrons and vambraces are there, just not breast plates.

the designers of the movie Gondorian armor were very influenced by Italian "Romantic era" designs (that's the term they used... not sure how accurate it is...) and wanted their armor to reflect they were a society that had stagnated and gotten a bit lazy, if you will. their armor had more to do with tradition and glitz and galmour rather than function.

alot of people complained because, during the Minas Tirith siege, there were several guys in this full armor shooting bows. OMG! Archerz in FULL PLATE ArmorzZZZZZZ!!!111 of course, they weren't thinking correctly, as these guys weren't "Gondorian archers" as in a game, but rather defenders of the city of Minas Tirith. they're not going to wear leather armor while shooting their bows, then when the walls are breached, run to their phone booth and reappear in SuperGondorianTinManOfOzgiliath armor. the ACTUAL Gondorian "archers" in the movie (the rangers; Faramir and companions) were very well done and very much influenced our Gondor Ranger outfits.

And I put all these points in two-handed weapons... Ill have to snag that Uruk two-hander somehow.

pretty much every faction has a bastard sword... which can be wielded two handed, when you're not on horseback or using a shield.

also, if I rember right, Dunland has a big two handed Chieftan sword.

I think it was mainly DaBlade who initially brought up the issue of using two handed swords; I honestly don't even remember WHY, but we all agreed that it was the right thing to do and adjusted accordingly. the only two handed swords we kept around are "hand and a half" swords. but the longsword, short sword was mainly Blade's doing, IIRC. we even have a few "inbetweens" that aren't quite shortswords but are bigger than daggers, like the Mirkwood knife.

I was actually looking forward to seeing Del Toro's aesthetic of Middle-earth. I love his take on fantasy in both Pan's Labyrinth as well as Hellboy II. At least they seem to be carrying over the designs and script he worked on with Jackson and Weta.

I just hope Del Toro's storytelling sensebilities rubbed off on Jackson, rather than vice-versa.

Where to start?

We need a lot of Harad stuff; mostly armors, a few helms and quite a few shields.

We need a few new helms for Dale, as well as shields for them.

We need almost evereything for Woodmen/Beornings.

New helms and shields for Rohan.

Most of this I would be more than willing to model (some already have) if I could get someone to texture them.

we need a little of everything. but, with the departure of DaBlade (whether temporary or permanent) we are in pretty deep need of another texturer. Blade and I were working together to get new Harad items (mostly armor and a few helms) done, when he dropped out of sight.

plus, some of our other texturers (Faradon and giles) either have too little time or have their own mod to work on.

good idea :D

maybe it would be better if it was an option only available after the player reaches a certain level? this would keep it from being repetitive, as you'd have to play for a while before it's made available. and maybe also make it only available against parties over a certain number of troops.
