1.8.4 still has a white-screen CTD for me - it now happens when trying to talk to NPC companions (freshly hired).

Another significant bug to go with the blacksmith one: there is a white screen CTD when fighting Searaiders.  haven't pinned down full behavior yet, but it has happened once in the middle of a fight and several times when first engaging.

It's been mentioned in the Taleworlds forum and you saw it, but thought I'd throw it in here: c++ CTD when trading with blacksmiths.  when it happens, it seems to happen with every blacksmith.  Any details on this one that will help us avoid it?

Nah, eventually (especially if you take out caravans) you'll start having enough money to equip rather well, it just takes a while (a week or so before you start being able to get the really good stuff.)

FYI: The tilting match definitely only gives 2 dinars.  Not 20.  So that is an impossibly slow way to gain money.  Pity, that's my favorite match.

Firstly, no, it's 20 (in my mod at least). Secondly, we're talking about STARTING a character out. The arena isn't SUPPOSED to let you give you ridiculous amounts of money so you can always buy the best of everything at any point during the war.

Well, I can screenshot it telling me that my share is 2 dinars if that will help.  conversations.txt also shows the text as "Congratulations_champion._You_made_some_pretty_good_moves_o ut_there._Here_is_your_share_of_share_of_the_prize_money,_2_denars."  Not wanting to pick a fight or anything, just how it is in the .808 port that I downloaded.  Like I say, I didn't watch my money enough to tell the actual amount it awards, so it may just be a typo.

And I know it seems impatient, but I can only carry so much loot.  So even several days in, I'm likely to only have made a couple thousand IF being very aggressive and lucky in combat.  Not too bad, until you remember that a good pair of gloves alone can cost 1200.  And that doesn't count the NPCs you have to keep equipped (usually at a loss in trading value).  I don't really even mind the design and the slow nature of it at all - that's not my concern.  I just wasn't sure if the game is even MEANT to have trading anymore, due to the strange dialogue the merchants offer sometimes.  I personally would prefer it with the option to make reasonable amounts of money by trading WHILE fighting the war.  But if that isn't the intent of the MOD, that's fine.  :)  I'm not overly obsessed with it, it was just my MO in the vanilla version/band of warriors mod to spend the first week building funds for better horses and weaponry, so I assumed it would work in TLD.

Slyspy, the real money comes in betting. You can make good money betting 30 denars/match on yourself, especially if you get into a big 4-team FFA match! However, this can be risky early on.

If you need money to bet, or think you wont make much from betting on yourself due to you losing, do tithing matches. It's basically jousting. It's fairly easy and nets 20 gold per win, and they are pretty short.

Actually the jousting matches only net me TWO dinars per match.  I thought it was laughable, but now I'm wondering if there is something wrong with my mod.  Or maybe it only SAYS I won TWO dinars, and it still gives me twenty.  either way, that's paltry.  And even a 30 dinar bet on a four-team match only nets ~80 (112-30 for bet) dinars if I remember.  That's a very slow way to make money, especially since I need to keep my main npcs well equipped too.

Well, problem is that if you are fighting large battles, you cannot even pick up all the loot.  (A Band of Warriors-esque "return to item pool" option would alleviate that issue), and you can only bet 30 dinars on yourself at a time in the arena.  That is VERY slow for building up strength, considering that by day 5 or 6 Lesser Hosts are wandering around trying to grind you into paste.

Could someone who worked on the town templates give a list of which towns (other than the unique ones) were based on which original towns?  If they didn't mess with the trading then, we still may be able to follow the old pattern, once we find out what was switched...

I mean, why have the option of starting a merchant character?

Not sure if this was an issue in earlier versions, but the trading system seems broken.

Every merchant makes suggestions on what to buy and where to sell it.  Seems like they are all just traitors trying to weaken the war effort, because every one of them so far has lied to me, and lost me some money.  Other than doing a map-wide survey of what goods sell for what prices at what locations, is there any sort of system or hint I can be pointed toward?  (I did search and browse the full forum for this mod, so my apologies if I missed something.)  Even just a file to look at would be fine, then I could perhaps correct the issue myself.

No one has mentioned it, but I suppose I should also ask... are we just not supposed to do any trading to gather money in this mod?

*Note: There is also a minor issue with Pinnath Gelin (and possibly others).  The merchant gives the same "caravan information" text as Edhollond, right down to the name of the city.
