The only version, actually, unless plans are seriously changed.

Although the current version that Raz is developing is still using RCM .808 stats, which are badly off for .90x ... but they will be updated before there is a release (or even a major beta test).

Mybad, I meant a version without RCM. For me, the way Native is set up is fine. I don't like my cheese moved.  Tongue (Kodus to anyone who knows that one)

Sorry, then, but the dev team here pretty much think that your cheese smells funny and will just have to tough it out.

We're balancing the game on the assumption that the RCM will be in place.  Removing it, going back to native where armor did nothing and most weapons did nothing and only couched lances worked, would create all kinds of balance problems and make the game quite unplayable.

I like the RCM so please don't remove it, it just adds so much realism to combat.

Don't panic.  It's not going anywhere.  The dev team wouldn't have it any other way.

So I guess that the best armour you can get in the mod is European mail right? As far as I remember, during the period this mod takes place, plate armour didn't even exist. If so, cool. There is just something stylish about being unhorsed then cutting a path with your fellow mailed knights through a swath of Arabs swarming around your small band. I had a moment like that in A Song of Ice and Fire recently, very epic indeed. Until you die that is.

Will most Arabs be equipped with heavy armour, like mail or lamellar vests? I hope a lot of them will be equipped with lighter stuff as well, so as to make hacking through them with a good sword easier. I appreciate the effectiveness of an axe, when against armour, but there's something about wielding a sword that's just much more stylish.

Realism (both historical and mathematical) is of the utmost importance, however. Style should derive from it, not the other way around.

Actually, I think the heavy Asiatic lamellars were the toughest armors in the mod.  This pre-dates true articulated plate armors by a good deal, but heavy European scale and Arabic lamellars rather outclass maille by a good deal.

The Arabs will likely have a relatively larger number of lighter troops, but their elite units will have the trademark Asiatic lamellars as well.  That part was working even in the last dev version, and was both pretty historical and pretty playable.

And yeah, dramatic horse charges are "brave" (i.e. stupid).

Actually, forms of plate armor did exist, but not of the common modern thinking of full plate.  Single plates of armor would be strapped on to cover certain areas of the body.  I believe a chronicler wrote  that Richard I unstrapped the plate on his shins before he jumped into the water at Jaffa and waded to shore when they releaved the garrison there (I know you meant a full plate on the chest).

Yeah, I said "articulated plate armors" ... the use of trauma plates in general, especially on the forearms and shins and in helmet construction, is like a gazillion years old (and hasn't really changed much in that time).

Will Holy war be developed for this version (0.950), or still waiting for the final version?
