Clone Wars version mini-mod discussion
«

A guy on the Turkish M&B forum asked me if he could release a 'clone wars' version of this mod. I had a lot of trouble understanding him at first because the translation websites are pretty poor, but eventually I understood what he was asking. I didn't have a major problem with it so I said it was fine. I looks like they just used my troop editor to change some names, etc, but if people want to check it out they can go to this site.

Hmm... I don't like it. Nothing good can come out of this.

I wouldn't mind so much if they created their own content under a different module name, but considering the vast amount of the content in their module is ours, it's like we are competing with our selfs.
Edit; Personally i think in order to ensure the successfulness of this module some agreement should be made that we also get permission to use any custom content they create for their module that we believe may benefit this module.

I don't think a CW project should be under the complete supervision of the SWC team, or that it should be made by the SWC team (they already have enough to do imo), but this looks like the worst of 2 evils...
Why not start an international project (no offence, but most people aren't Turkish, shocking, I know) with a strong connection to the SWC team?
I'm sure there would be a lot of support for something like that.
Also, why not a smaller project, that doesn't embody as many locations and elements as the SWC project, so that it could be seen as a small sideproject from the main SWC mod at first, and could slowly grow into a fullgrown mod.

Small proyects aren't as rewarding as complete ones (like SWC).

Never said it'd stay a small project...
in stead of building a huge universe and then starting to flesh out everything, it should start small and only fleshed out stuff should be added

Well, in general I agree with all you guys. But quite honestly google translation was doing an awful job and I didn't really understand what he was asking until after I saw some of the screenshots. Now, I did give permission so don't blame him at all for posting, and I definitely should have checked with the other team members first, but I basically thought he was interested in starting a clone wars mod so I asked if he also wanted the source code so he could do a complete overhaul, etc. I didn't understand he was just going to use the troop editor (which I created btw), to modify some troops, etc. But, another reason why I wasn't as concerned trying to figure out the correct translation was because it was in the turkish forum, and I didn't think that would get as much traffic. If somebody wanted to do something similar in the English forum we'd definitely have to talk more about it. I also appreciate that the guy only posted the files he modified, and didn't re-post the entire mod itself, so it is truly an add-on or modification to SWC, and not a stand-alone mod. So everybody knows the major contents are from the SWC mod itself.
Also, I've been thinking about it a little more, and to a certain extent if somebody wants to create a 'mod' of SWC, then that seems pretty cool and maybe its something we should consider supporting? I know Sword of Damocles has several 'variants' to it. While I've never played them, I'm guessing they are something similar? We might want to think about if its fine to allow people to post mods or variants to SWC, just as long as you don't re-post the entire mod itself? For example, even just using the un-official tools people could decrease or increase the amount of jedi/sith, they could tweak weapons, troop stats, party sizes, troop names, etc. So if there were a few different variants out there to SWC then maybe that would attract more people or give us additional feedback on what tweaks need to be made to the 'core' SWC mod itself in the future. Anyway, let me know what everybody thinks, and if somebody speaks english & turkish then let me know since I may want to send another PM to that guy just to make sure that he doesn't plan to release a stand-alone mod with all the files in the future.

The Turkish forum is the biggest regional board of the TaleWorlds forum, so small miscalculation there
On a more serious note: I think your idea is ok, but very risky.
It will probably result in a ton of people starting small mods of this mod at first, and afterwards, a huge downfall in interest in a SW mod, since most of those mods will have failed by then...
If people want to tweak SWC, they can do that and nobody can stop them from doing so, as long as it's for personal use...
Publishing tweaked versions of a mod or tweaks to a mod sounds like a waste of space on the repository to me.

some good points, and I did realize later that the turkish forum would be quite large, but at the time I was forgetting where TW was located.
But yeah, this is something we should have, and need to think over a little more...

I think that the very first thing you should do is make a license agreement that protects the (from now) Official SWC
project... you know... your great scripts made with your precious time, the incredible work of the modelling team,... to prevent h * j 4 c k 1 n g (that will not be shown in google translator
)
BTW he
DO NOT HAVE PERMISSION to use MY neat LOGO
in the marvelous
one guy team
modified
(ironically)
Clone Wars project, he is spoiling my art
send him a pm...
Maybe he can h*j4ck the mod, but not modify my logo to
turn it into that ugly crap
...
omg my eyes are bleeding
... that guy doesn't know about Photoshop or style(s)
psss...

< Take an eye to that vomitive and 'Grunge' 'art'
PD: I don't support the double team idea...
and I'm so angry right now, so I'll stop of type more hurtful words
in spanish: madre mía, la que se está liando... eh revan

None of my contributions can be used either.
(so far, none of them are ingame, but the N-1 starfighter Vector has atm and my current projects can't be used)

ok guys, I agree and completely understand all your complaints and/or comments. I'll take the blame on this one because he did ask permission, I just didn't really understand, or really think long about what he was asking permission for...
If anybody speaks Turkish let me know, otherwise I'll try and use google translation again and send him a PM.

I think it's just to early for submods.
This is still in Beta and many things have to be added and tweaked before it is really playable. And I can hardly believe that the submod's "team" will update the mod when a new Beta is released...
So any Bug Reports from the submod will be worthless for future SWC releases and people will still come here and cry about old bugs...

I suggest the CW mod to be in the style of the CW animated TV-series and movie, as to assure a nice and recognizable atmosphere for the setting.
It also offers a way to use less than realistic textures and models without loss of quality
